Dr. Jordi Magrané
I am a cellular biologist with an interest in the mechanisms of neurodegeneration, and in mitochondrial involvement in neurodegenerative diseases. More specifically, I am intrigued by how the impairment of overall mitochondrial function and abnormal mitochondrial axonal transport causes the loss of proprioception in the neuromuscular degenerative disease Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA). Over the last few years, I have dedicated my efforts towards developing novel microscopy-based, live imaging assays in order to assess the role of mitochondrial dynamics in the pathogenesis of FA, in vitro as well as in vivo.
